Default Help needed decoder install MT FT A&B

As suggested on the Digitrax decoder list, I am using Digitrax DN163M0 decoders in both my A and B Micro train FT units. On both locos, I cannot get the shells back on - the decoder is in the way.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This might help, says F7 but it looks like an FT. Towards the end he describes getting the shell back on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iewd1yYEF_8

I don't recall having any problems getting the shells back on mine. Do the decoders still look like this?

Be a while that I have done one of these. Has I recall there are some obstructions on the inside of the shell that fit into the place where that decoder sits. Try putting some modeling clay on the inside of the shell where the decoder should touch.
then try to put the shell on. When it will not attach all the way- remove shell and look to see where the decoder is hitting the clay. Re move clay and then relive the places the clay was displaced.

The plastic inserts for the portholes are pretty thick, but a modicum of force should get them past the decoder. Or at least it did for me. They're a much bigger annoyance when trying to get the shell off (which I just discovered, lol). You could try sanding them a bit thinner if you're worried about hurting something.

    Thumbs up Install done.

I contacted my friend Jean and he ended up doing the install for me. The Digitrax decoder was 14.75 mm across, and the original board was 13.2 mm. He ended up sanding .25 mm off each side of the decoder, and .5 mm off each side of the windows. I have JPG pictures, but when I try to upload, I get a "upload failed" response. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone who replied - drbnc, Mark and woodone.

You probably just need to resize your photos.
