    Why Moose stampede?

Moose provide valuable public service getting others to post photos ... A fee of $1 for each photo + Moose muscle = No ads, No annual membership dues, No worrying Bryan or Gargoyle, and No sad faced n-scale.net'rs...

    Moose made for this!

I think we should all get 2 cents every time the term "moose stampede" is posted.

Oops, I just just lost a couple of bucks. Er, bulls.

As for Moose dander and stampedes, I found an easy solution for both.

Whoa! That was a dadgum close one there... do you have any idea what you almost done!

If you hadn't posted that video, you'd have invoked a stampede for violating the "photos (or videos) or it didn't happen" principle, thus the Moose would have had to have left the shower to go a-stampedin' and thus would have been unavailable for said video creating a paradox in the space-moose continuum, possibly bringing an end to the universe as we know it!

Really now, do we need Albert Einstmoose to come on the forum and edumacate y'all on his theory of rela-moose-ity before carelessness brings the whole universe, and this forum, to an abrupt end?

Better get some donations going to pay Mr. Einstmoose for his lecture series before it's too late.

Just a thought... whilst we don’t mind a little topic diversion, for the sake of helping Tony (Gargoyle) with his decision, can we keep this one on topic.

While I haven't been contributing much to the forums the past year or two (modeling put on hold due to personal health issues and having to care for an elderly parent), I can say that I still check in almost daily to read the new threads and thoroughly enjoy my time here, and am thankful to all of those who make NSN the success it is.

Honestly, I get as much or more out of the format and content here as I do from some of the printed publications I subscribe to. As such, I would certainly not be opposed to donating to help support the site, or to seeing minor unobtrusive ads along the way, but as others have said, ads can become a slippery slope. I'd hate to see one of my favorite stops on the web become an ad-riddled disaster. Whatever it is that's needed, count me in...

    Cheers!
    Troy

I would be happy to provide a donation to keep this forum going and free to all comers. I support several sites on Patreon that way. A little badge on the name block (or whatever you call that ID thing on the top left corner of a post) would be kind of cool.

I don't mind ads. I'm really good at ignoring them on other sites even without an ad blocker. Of course, ad revenue depends on clicks. As far as special/commemorative cars go, I don't buy them. I'm not any sort of collector, I buy trains to play with them!

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Honestly I prefer the idea of donations over ads. Ads are a slippery slope, a wikipedia style donation drive when funds are needed seems the best route IMHO. I would be happy to donate to this site.

Apologies to those who thought my use of the term freeloading was derogatory, it wasn't intended to be offensive just a matter of fact, despite our faith in humanity there will be those who will constantly take without reciprocating. And I take the point wombat makes that we have all been freeloading of the admins for years and to that end something needs to change to support the work they do.
I stand by my suggestion for the small rotating adverts, if anyone thinks it is obtrusive or slows the site down please check out https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php to allay any fears, and please do check it out, don't just dis the idea because you can ;-)

Despite my comments about freeloading, I obviously would have no objection to a donate button, but this must be done anonymously, no handing out little badges etc as this just goes to creating cliques and elite status and thus ends the feeling that all are welcome and equal. As others have pointed out, there are those who could donate probably enough to run this place for a year without giving it a second thought and for others, chucking in 10 $/£ every few months would be a big deal, so please, lets not create an elite and keep this place friendly and where all are equal.

Would it be possible to approach suppliers and ask them to donate items then hold a Christmas raffle/prize draw on the understanding that tickets/entry was affordable to all. I appreciate shipping costs have to be factored in to this but if any overseas members won a prize, they could have the option of returning it or making a small contribution towards shipping costs. If you win a $150 loco for a $5 ticket, you're not going to mind chucking in another $10 for shipping are you.

This is not all pie in the sky stuff, I have done all of this on previous forums and it has worked, yes it takes a lot of bloody hard work to organise it all but to keep this place alive and kicking it is worth the effort.
