    Please update us on the progress you have made on your MRR projects this week (commencing: 13th Sep 2019).

    This weekly thread is to post little snippets about your layout/project progress.
    This is not be a substitute for your layout build thread, but just a mini update on what you got done for the week.

    You can link from your layout build thread to your posts in this thread as a part of a more extensive post there, or visa-versa (post to your build thread and link to that post when contributing to this thread.

    Click on a post's #number (right-hand end of the post header) to get the URL to that particular post in your browsers address bar.
    Copy and paste this as needed.

    So, fellow nSn'ers, what have you been up to this week?

    I swear I've been doing some actual modeling, but it's all kind of a work in progress so no pictures. However, I did pay someone else to make some nifty new wall art for me, and of that I do have pictures

    The C&NW timetable is from 1939 and features the rather new "Minnesota 400" train and its run through one of my towns (Waseca, MN) -

    I promise to try harder next week, lol.

    Mine's "well organized" and still is continuously in a state of chaos and unruliness.

    Moose try and fail on decals - again. Arrrggg!

    So Moose do some more sub-par ballasting on layout:

    @tomcook

    No locomotives until: 1. Track is completely ballasted; 2. All of the loose bits are vacuumed up; 3. Paint is cleaned off of top of rails; 4. All turnouts are functioning properly, and who knows what else...

    Decals? Arrrg! Difficulties are: 1. Printer doesn't print decals with high enough quality to get solid colors; 2. Ink disintegrating along cut edges of decals; 3. Cannot seem to match ink colour to boxcar colours...

    @Moose2013
    The difficulties you’re experiencing are somewhat typical of decal making for the first times.
    I’ve had the same ones when I first got into decal making.
    I now get very good results using my HP Officejet.

    For 1…Clean your printer head and nozzles (very important).
    Use new fresh ink cartridges.
    Print at the maximum resolution (dpi) your printer is capable of.

    For 2…Let your decals dry/outgas for at least 24 hours before trying to “seal” them.
    Too much sealer will cause the ink to run on the decal sheet, to little will cause the ink to run when soaking in water. There is a sweet spot with how much is enough and not too much. Then add another 24 hours drying time.
    Don’t stack newly printed or sealed decal sheets.
    After you cut the decals from the sheet, seal the edges and let fully cure before soaking. I generally use paint (dry brushed) or colored pencils, but have used sharpies if I can get a good color match.
    Add another 24 hours.

    For 3…Place your car on your scanner and scan and save at highest resolution.
    Use a program that will allow you to create layers.
    I use paint.net, it’s free.
    https://www.getpaint.net/download.html
    Now you can click anywhere on your car (scan) and copy that exact color to your decal.
    The process from printing the sheet to dull coating the decals on the car, takes me about a week, any less time than that I find I get silvering, from out gassing, in a few months.

    Good luck
