While I wait for Peco electrofrog turnouts to build the new granite mill switcher scene I'm going to put together a new test track loop complete with scenery based on this drawing from
    http://www.carendt.com/micro-layout-...youts-fun-run/

I will try to use the 4% WS foam risers I have somewhere, otherwise it will be built entirely out of materials on hand.

Obviously my version of the plan is not much like the Carendt version, other than the loop and cross-over mine is going to have a hill in the middle instead of a lake..... I will have to come up with a different name...

Whaaa? Oh. Moose was making with the funny, because you said something about a blank slate, and it's a granite mill, and, oh bother. Never mind...

Yes, it's really close to the edge, but I plan on adding a narrow shelf before trains are run.

Began the base scenery.... I'm torn between a full hill in the middle, or a smaller steeper hill to the right with something in a valley below:

i think I might like to get the sugar house kit for one side of the scene and maybe logging camp kit for the other side.

Todays progress continued. Placed lose blocks of foam to plan out landscaping and pinned down mock-up tracks so I can mark road bed locations before continuing with the mess....

And track has been laid, the upper fore-ground section is not glued down yet, but the rest is mostly. Bridges aren’t going to be installed until later so I don’t destroy them. Hoping I can get away with snipping the track to install bridges later.

Since I ordered the Sugar House kit I will be doing a little seen winter scene, or rather early spring since it’s sugaring season.

    time for winter scene research.

My mini-layout needs a name and I’m not sure where to start so maybe some brain storming ideas from the crowd?

layout summary: Shay operating during sugaring season in northern New England, so it’s late winter early spring and there will be melting snow, probably bare south facing hillsides as they’re first to melt. There will be a sugar house and possibly a two-story yet very narrow station on top level before the bridges. The only officially operating train will be a shay with three Athearn Overton passenger cars.
