    Default ScaleTrains SantaFe Dash 9

Is it just me or is ScaleTrains just not spot on with some of these colors? I want that Santa Fe Dash 9 but that red looks washed out. Almost orangish. What do you guys think?
look at how proud and bright the red is in real life and then look at the ScaleTrains model on their website. Frustrating.

It's hard to say, too many variants.
The image you posted looks too rich.
The images on ST's page looks underexposed or washed out.
Then you have the variations of monitors.
    I wouldn't judge by pictures.

ST uses original paint samples. It should be a close match to the as delivered colors.

I'm sorry. The difference is night and day. The same thing with my ScaleTrains UP Gevo. The model is too yellowish. If we are "Rivet Counting", should we not count the paint?

Sure... but you also have to allow in differences in lighting, exposure, etc in the photographs themselves. You've picked a very bright red prototype picture. As I look through some of these prototype pictures:

Some look darker than others. For example, here's one from 1995, so the paint would still be pretty new:

The Scaletrains pictures on line do look a little washed out, but it's hard to tell online. It will be interesting to hear from folks who have seen them in person.

If I remember scale trains uses tru-color paint to make touch ups easier so if their ATSF red is off scale train's will be too
