    Default Old Kato GP50 parts

Looking for a worm gear for an old KATO GP50 locomotive. I bought one on ebay that came missing one.

Been finding small gears for RC drones at AliExpress ( china) . Saw some worms but did not pay attention.

    the gp-50 had a worm/flywheel, riiight?

are all the other parts to hold the worm still there? am thinking of the shaft bearings and u-joints...
If so, I would bet that a worm from a similar time frame loco will have a worm...

    eta:
I recommend you get another kato gp-50 and swap the shell and have spare parts
as there are few good options.
I am pretty sure I could make a part to fit it, however it would not cost you less than hunting the bay and getting another loco.

I've got a saved search on "the bay" that updates me when a GP50 gets listed. Just waiting for one to be priced decently. Something tells me these were a really good model since I don't see many out there being listed or sold.

We've got a local train show coming up this weekend. I'm going to see if I can find something there too.

Not so much these are really good models, these are just old, last run was 1989 I believe.

I got a box of parts from 3-4 of them, just don't remember where I put the box.

Gp-50 by Kato were pretty good runners compared to the alternatives back when it was released.
They are worth getting if you need a gp-50.

they suffer from cracked and slipping u-joints more than anything else.
often they will get one worm removed and the uncracked joints will get used on one working worm.

and the parts get separated and lost...
it is such a simple fix...

people who have them keep them for parts.
    for the ones they run.

Found someone on another forum that had a chassis from one that the shell was broken to pieces on. Sent them some money and they're shipping it off to me. Wohoo!!
