Default Track powered End of Train Flasher (FRED) ?????

I would like to install a flashing red light (FRED) on a few of my rolling stock cars that I use at the end of my trains.

I know there are kits you can buy that use a 3 volt battery but I was wondering if there are any kits that would use track power instead. Kato has conveniently provided metal trucks and track power pickups on quite a few of their freight cars so I would imagine that would make for an easy install of a track powered FRED. But I can't seem to locate any kits like that.

Does anyone know if a track powered kit is available from a vendor?

    Thanks.

    Dave

Firefly FRED. Best there is for the ones drawing power from the tracks. Works on DCC too.

I buy them directly from Daniel himself at the Altoona trian show. I have two running and they just work.

I have no answer for you but can share my experience with a battery powered unit. I have a caboose with a constant light that has the original battery from 2009. I left it on at shows for two days at a time a few times a year and it still powers up.

Powering one up from track power is no problem at all. Just add a bridge rectifier to the incoming power from the trucks. The Bridge will have the Pos and Neg marked. Add a cap or two and a voltage regulator and your ready to go.

I installed a DCC Fred from GATR years ago. You can adjust the flash rate, and turn it on and off via your throttle. I love it.
