Question Custom painting, who does it?

I was wondering who does custom engines? Any recommendations from the gang here?

Jeff King of Milwaukee road train shop and @randgust are my go tos. Jeff has the ability to print his own white decals but his services are expensive. With Randgust you can send him a ballpoint pen, a paperclip and a matchbox with a note attached saying make this move and he'll find a way to do it. Either way expect to wait depending on how busy they are, custom stuff isn't for the impatient

You know (taking your point), I wouldn't be surprised if that's really the case. ...

I had both work on my USAF locos, here are some samples. The GP40's are Jeff's, completely custom decals. The MRS-1 and the modified SW-8 are Randgust, completely custom handrails on both of his.

Thank you for the information. I will try to contact randgust over the weekend to see what his needs are to do a engine for me. I understand that custom work takes time and I know it's worth the wait.

Griff (mrg76) of Griff’s Grime Shop use to do great work.
He hasn’t been around here since mid 2015.
He’s a service member, so could be on deployment.
I thought he did this with his father, so maybe a google search might turn up something.

I have done the same, though I am currently doing one for a friend. I don't know what rates are, so I told them I'll do the paint/decals, and they can pay me accordingly.

Mu26aeh, if you could let me know what you agree on for prices, I would appreciate it. I'm gathering information first then make a decision. I haven't decided if I'm going to have 1 or 2 engines done.

I've decided to have 2 engines done in Unstoppable colors. My twin boys are fascinated by them. Although my donors aren't the correct model, they won't know the difference.

    Hi NSNYSWFAN74,

In the Cleveland area, Brad Glaze is one of the best at construction and painting.

I have several of his cryogenic tank cars and a transfer caboose.

What paint scheme are you looking at getting done?

I'm looking to have 2 of my Dash 8-40c's done in the AWVR colors from Unstoppable. My twin 5 yr old boys are absolutely fascinated by the movie. Although they're not the correct engines, they won't know that. It would make them happy. One needs coupler conversion to body mount MTL and both could use a better tune up than I do.

Bumped this thread, as it isn't that old. The one loco I would love to have would be a Micro Trains SW1500, custom painted for Manufacturer's Rwy.

Even better would be another run from MTL, with this roadname offered as a factory paint job...

Intermodalman, I want to thank you for randgust info. I sent him my GP7 to custom paint into Sacramento Northern colors and what a great job he did. He made new hand rails, window shades, and grab irons. My NW2 came out so bad that I shipped it to him to fix too.
    Thanks again.
