    Default Sick of satellite ......

    We have had to deal with slow, unreliable, over priced very limited satellite internet for the last 12 years where I live. THAT is all about to change!!!

    In a couple of weeks we will be changing to Fibre Optic Internet giving us:

    True Unlimited downloads and Uploads (no restrictions)
    Speed - 1 Gbps download/upload (10000 mbps)

    No more BS "up to" 12 mbps speeds or a maximum of 25 GB of upload/download data being shared.

    How is this Railroad/Hobby related? Now I'll be able to watch all of those "How to Videos" that have been suggested for the hobby without having to wait until 3:00 am or worrying about going over our monthly limit. AT last, we are OUT OF the dark ages!!! Two or three weeks cannot go quickly enough
    Cheers Tony

    You're going to have to start your own YouTube channel and become an "influencer" now that you can upload, too!

    @bicknell

    Nice thought but me and U Tube don't get on I'm afraid

    As for being an influencer, hmmm - I have a feeling that might be a reach, I don't think too many people take me too seriously - maybe I should run for president instead

    Hi Wombat457,

    You're probably overqualified to be president...if you want the job...you're obviously not the right man(lol).

    As far as Youtube, here are a few people whose work I have enjoyed: Rons Trains N Things, Jason Jensen and Marklin of Sweden(The Swedish Chef of Trains).

    Ron has quite an N scale empire and covers a wide variety of subjects.

    Jason does some of the finest weathered seaside scenery.

    Marklin accomplishes magic with styrofoam, tissue paper and white glue.

    There are a lot more talented individuals work available, please add to the list so we all benefit.
    Happy Modeling

    Bruce

    President Wombat? Why not! Several towns across the U.S. have elected dogs as mayor, including Guffey, Colorado. No reason a Wombat can't be president, unless he is not a native born American (which would Constitutionally disqualify him). Even so, he would be a better candidate than those currently running.

    @BruceNscale @el Gato Gordo

    Have to laugh - thanks guys BUT, think I'll have to pass on that pressy thing - I have more important things to deal with like, decoders, wiring, scenery, track work, bench work, maintenance - heck come to think of it - everything I do is more important And, um, might have to drop the subject as well - you know, the no political stuff rule thingy

    Bruce, having a sticky listing all the "good videos" (u tube or else where) would be a great idea, at the very least what you suggest a Thread Listing them. I know Luke Towan has a lot of excellent how to's as well. Have to confess, I have sneaked a look at one or two of his over the past month or so but don't tell the CEO ... PLEASE.

    We wont get the new internet for a few weeks at this point BUT, when we do - I will be hammering it for all it's worth and trying to catch up with all I have missed over the years when we do.
    Cheers Tony

    I'm on the same Satellite tracks as you, Unfortunately the fibre lines are not headed to a station near me, on the plus side with Covid our provider has upped are usage and I've been able to catch up on some video's( I even got to hear and see the Big Boy, of course the picture froze a few times I did say they upped our usage not our speed).
    Tony be careful that youtube doesn't cut into your modelling time and please share with us (via html) some of what you learn....

    @DBR

    You must have a half decent provider then, ours has done little to help other than offer some people the option of having "limited internet" for a cheap monthly rate. That of course takes away from the regular customers, slowing an already woeful speed and service even more. As I mentioned, we have dealt with dial up and satellite ever since I have been here (13 years now).

    A year ago Spectrum claimed they were coming to us, as they serve a town 5 miles away, and we are still waiting for them to make an appearance. Basically, we have had our hopes raised a few times where cable is concerned but about a month ago this new company (Armstrong) began putting in the lines and so forth and just completed all of that a week ago. Funnily enough, it was all kept pretty quiet and the only way we found about them was when I watched them putting the lines up to the power pole in our yard and asked what they what were doing. Sometimes being noisy pays off

    And watching videos won't be a priority, just a real nice option when needed and I am pretty sure that anything I (now) might learn has already been well known for some years by the guys here. None the less, I don't mind passing on already known and old news info
    Cheers Tony

    Never heard of it but I wonder what Mr Parker, Mc Hale and good ol Quinton are up to these days? Probably home playing with their high speed internet and watching re runs of the "Brady Bunch" or, possibly worse, "The Partridge Family"

    I'm starting to hate the internet already - I can see it giving me nightmares ....
