Gordon, actually a week ago. My F7 trailing unit gears were making noise due to the loose ballast from where cat had stepped previously. I thought that the gearbox was damaged on one of the trucks. Due to the noise it was making. I was able to brush it out from between the cogs. I do avoid to use grease type lube. Because of the reason you’ve had mentioned. I use an non sticky penetrating oil.

Well, I asked my foster daughter what could I add to my layout. This is not the first time I’ve asked her or my wife. They’ve provided me with some cool input. Like the traffic cones trailer park and so forth.
Since I’ve been working on the sunset motel. I am currently waiting for the swimming pool to come in from a guy from Türkiye. Once that comes in, I can set up the lights and add the rest of the details to it. Like the raccoons idea that she gave me. But one thing that I was having issues with was an person looking through a telescope. Needless to say I totally forgot about the leftover road survey team that was stashed away in one of my mini drawers for small items. Then I was going to use a piece of cylindrical plastic mold that held building pieces of one of my structures that I put together. I realize how big it was. Then I saw one of the white plastic sign poles that was already to a perfect size. So I painted the tips black and used the xacto knife to cut off the small spotting scope for the survey team. I then glued it to the new telescope for a spotting scope for the telescope and the eyepiece area. Then glued it to the tripod. Didn’t come out too bad I think.

Cool kitbash! I would think that somebody with a telescope would have been done already.

    Thanks!!

Although it was an easy mashup. I honestly looked for days online for an N scale telescope. Whenever I realized that I had this spotting scope from the survey team and the surveyor. My mind went to town.

Well , it appears like someone decided to build a new motel across from the trailer park. With building such a place in a small town that has a brothel above the local watering hole. Things will happen. Anyway let’s get a closer look at some of the action that is going on.
Looks like chaos at its best! One girl is getting ready to splash her mother, who is floating on her raft. Little Johnny has swiped the blonde who was sunbathing. Which lead to a chase around the swimming pool. As the other ladies watch in awe as everything is unfolding. The grounds keeper is fighting off the trashcan pandas behind the motel. Not to mention that some of the patrons from Madame Tinkertoys House of blue lights had to go to the east side of town because of the vacancy was filled there. Due to the bikers who rode into town earlier that day.

Here’s some more photos from my motel build. I started this back in January. Assembling the motel and painting it was the easy part. Waiting for the the other pieces to come in and adding the lights was the task in hand. I will try to include all of the photos and links of video footage for the motel build. For example the swimming pool came from Türkiye and the sexy couples came from Reyunalds. Other pieces like the beds, asphalt and parking lot area, lighting, the raccoons , ladies at the swimming pool, and the kissing couples all came from eBay. The people in the office are extras I had laying around. Plus I modified the motel office for the back room for the night auditor added a checkin desk and filing cabinet in the office also. Not to forget. I trimmed the hinges on the two rooftop’s so they can be easily removed for viewing. If I forgot about something. I can explain.

Looks great. That Motel looks busy enough for an expansion. With another kit, you could add a few more rooms. The extra office could easily be converted to a small Gas-N-Go station. The pool could use a privacy fence to keep the locals out. I would suggest this…

But I think a redwood stain would look good with the motel.

@ChicagoNW Actually I was looking for the small metal fencing that were commonly found around the pool area. Big wooden fencing would put it out of period. Plus not enough area for another motel section. People will have to go to the local campgrounds or the next town over for room and board

How about some burnt rubber marks behind that hotrod?

If you read through the post, there are several ways to make a chainlink fence discussed. From metal screen material strips “woven” between straight pin posts to various Tulle ribbons.

I’m not so sure wooden fencing has even been “out of style”.

I never recalled a wooden fence or chain link fence around any motel swimming pool in the seventies or early eighties. This is the style that I was talking about.

I’ve never seen that design in N scale. You may need to custom cut one with a laser. Too tedious to build with styrene. Maybe too delicate to Rapid Prototype. Could be a first time photo-etching project.

That hotel was over a decade old when the 70s came around. It’s design is budget Googie, from the late 50s, early 60s. The V shaped support of the carport roof is the tell.

Make note of the ornamental brick wall that encloses the parking lot. I have seen those around other hotels of that time frame.

I’ve seen plenty of motels like that with wooden or chainlink fences in the areas where trailer parks are found.
