Default What are you buying January 2021?

I needed one more Southern 70-ton hopper for an even dozen of Southern-owned three-bay hoppers, so I scored this from Hiawatha Hobbies.

Southern Ry. absorbed the old Norfolk Southern in 1974.

An ACI decal on each side, new couplers and brake hoses, and some weathering, and it'll be ready for a Slate Fork Mine Run.

I thought the MTL TBOX cars in the Red TTX scheme were coming out this month, but apparently it's mid-March. Sigh...

I received a couple of locomotives in the mail today.

Rapido BC Rail 4619 to go with 4601.

Kato CN ES44 2898 to match up with 2816.

    Both are fantastic locomotives.

Today I received the old version of the Digitrax Evolution set. Got it for a good price as it's old new stock. To go with it, I also purchased 2 additional UP5's with wall warts and 17 decoders to start upgrading some of my DC loco's.

Think they're playing catch up from Covid and the fires. Hell, they're still assembling and shipping the first run of TTX as fast as they can to cover pre-orders.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, just frustrated, that's all. Oh well. At least I can use some of my upcoming Stimulus Check on the TBOX cars when they do come out...

Me too... and the CSX cars were pushed from December to February, the CN/DWC to April...

I'm a little afraid they'll be consolidating runs. Making all the yellow cars in one batch (they just announced another run of the "v1" black logo TTX), all the brown cars in another (CN/DWC and UP so far, maybe more to come?) etc.

Anyway. Not much for me to do about it. And I've got a lot of other cars to weather and install body mount couplers including a pair of old LBF 60' high cubes so I'm not really depending on those. And no, they are not tempting me to preorder more

    Cheers,
    Heiko

Hopefully I am off the hook for picture-taking if the only thing that came in the mail today was a bundle of cork roadbed

It's SP time again! I have a second 50' Box Car #651489 at the top of this picture to accompany my first #651485 Box Car. Then there is my runner pack of 43' Rapid Discharge Hoppers. I can't explain why I'm "a-track-ed" to these SP freight cars. They are typical or plain looking, but I find myself buying "SP" and "DRG&W" lately.

Well, I will start with something I actually purchased last month but have only now gotten assembled. My Ikea Ivar shelving.
    20210106_160135.jpgLL2-plan.jpg
This will be the support the section under the Wilkes Barre run around. It also gives me some nice storage area. They have cabinetry inserts and drawer units for these shelves that I will be adding later.
Next we have a couple of recent purchases from N Scale Supply and EBay.
    20210105_160617.jpg
Latest issue of N Scale magazine. I don't subscribe but like to buy an occasional issue, especially if there is an article I am interested in. Two cars, 2nd hand through N Scale Supply. The old time gondola is for my Christmas layout and the reefer is for the main layout. The AMT Lunar module kit is just for something different to build. I won't say I grew up but was alive during the 60's space race, so these kits bring some nostalgia for me. The two tubes are containers of disposable micro brushes. I have to buy some lumber now for the extensions and paint for the Lunar Module kit.
Cheers and stay safe all! Maurice

Nice choice M! Please show us when it's done, preferably on your layout or next to a train.

I picked up a handful of vehicles from our own Rasputen. These are up there with some of the coolest things that I've purchased so far. They still need the window flash removed, but other than that, they just need to be painted. The detail is amazing. Full interiors too.

Ooooh, looky what arrived in the mail today ... DR 18 201 by Arnold.
Ordered last month, but the holidays have caused a huge backlog at the mail service and things are trickling in now.

I can't remember how many times I've looked at it and told myself no, but then one day out of the blue ebay showed me this one and I caved in.
Yes, it's an old mold and they haven't even bothered to replace the pizza cutter wheels, but it's a 2019 reissue - new in box at a reasonable price - with digital interface and a darker green than the usual "poison green" livery. Also, it has the coal tender, so it's the early 60s DR version.

As I understand it, 18 201 is currently being overhauled and is expected to return to the rails some time in 2021.

    Wood for a gate.
    Gate hardware.
Storage shed for household items and holiday decor.
Electrical supplies to add outlets and a switch.
    New louvered vent covers.
    Insulation.
    Wall covering of some kind.
    Ceiling treatment.
Some power tools to help with everything.
    More light fixtures.

This is all model railroad related, believe it or not.
