    Default Templot 2, a help/advice/mentor/(whatever) thread?

    Hi Gang!

So, I've recently downloaded and started to use a software program called Templot2. http://www.templot.com/

It seems like a really cool and powerful program for creating templates and more creative layouts... (for those who are NOT interested in the snap snap of set tracks)

This is a great tool for anyone who is doing hand laid track work.

Did some searching, and there isn't a lot of info out there about this program.
But, I know that there must be guys around here who do use it.

There is a UK forum site dedicated to it: https://85a.uk/templot/club/index.php
    and a read-only forum site: https://85a.co.uk/forum/

I thought I would create a thread here for us to be able to chat about:

    • Problems/Issues we are having
    • Tips and/or Tricks
    • Advice and/or help
    • Comfort with similar issues.
    • Questions
    • Comments
    • and whatever Templot related.

So, with that... I declare this thread open for .... ok, it's just open!

Iíve tried to use it a couple of times in order to design custom turnouts that are not something Fast Tracks has a template for. Quit in frustration both times. Between the lack of documentation and the UK terminology used in the program, I really couldnít figure it out even by trial and error, even though I spent a bit of time trying. Your right, it does look cool if you could ever figure out what to do! My 2 cents. anyway

I do agree... the documentation is rather sparse. And, I spent several days pulling out my hair to figure it out. and the trial and error approach that usually works doesn't help much here.

But, I did run across this guys helping hand.... http://templot.com/companion/beginne...ny_wilkins.php granted, there is a LOT of reading to do. and if you have 2 screens or 2 computers it really helps, *What I did*. As he walks you through the process, I do it as he says, step by step, until I figured out what he was getting at. Now, between his walk-through, and the current version, there are some MINOR changes, but, nothing that I couldn't figure out easily.

After I got my head wrapped about that... I went though this other walk-through http://templot.com/companion/getting...n_ferguson.php (again, same issues minor changes between his walk through and the current version.) But, now I am attempting to do up my track plan... It's slow going. And, I jump back to them when I forget a step. But, it is coming along.....

    Hi,

I'm the developer of the Templot program.

I'm sorry the docs are not up-to-date -- the Templot program has been my ongoing project for over 40 years now. I'm continually making changes and improvements to it, so it's difficult to keep the docs in step.

I created the program originally for my own use, but it's available free to anyone who wants to use it. It's not a software product in the usual sense. Download from: https://85a.uk/templot/companion/installation.php

if you get stuck, please, please join the Templot Club user forum at: https://85a.uk/templot/club

There's lots of friendly help and advice there. We have only just moved to that forum software, for the last 14 years the Templot Club forum was at: https://85a.co.uk/forum and it's all still available for searching and reference.

If you are completely new to Templot, there is the start of a beginners guide at: https://85a.uk/templot/companion/templot_explained.php

For some explanation of the ideas behind the program, see: https://85a.uk/templot/companion/origins_intent.php

    cheers,

    Martin.

Thank you for your hard work on this program!

The more I use your program, the more I discover all the amazing things I can do with it.
