Default Raspberry Pi with touchscreen running JMRI

For our club layout I'm looking at getting a Raspberry Pi 4 and pair it with the 7" touchscreen. There's a case like this for the Pi 4 and official touch screen. https://www.buyapi.ca/product/smarti...icial-display/ It would make a nice JMRI control terminal.

Has anyone else made a similar setup?

I have one of those cases!

I’m running an older version of Raspberry Pi, but I’m pretty sure the newer one should work too.

I use it to run decoder pro. The touchscreen DOES work nicely (I have the Raspberry Pi brand touchscreen) but a 7” screen is kind of small to get the discrimination that my fat fingers need. So I still use a mouse and keyboard.

The SmartiPi case is a really nice product; well-engineered and well-made.

Hope this helps; feel free to ask any follow up questions.

I’ve got a Pi but I’m using a regular monitor and a wireless keyboard/touch pad. I love the idea of a touch screen though.

I have been pondering using a setup like this to control the new yard I am building. I would be very interested in others experience with this sort of solution.

On Youtube found a few examples of JMRI on a touchscreen using conventional computers. And they are quite slick.

Well, if it can be done with a conventional computer, it can be done on a Pi (as long as you're talking about something relatively lightweight like JMRI).

Am I the only guy here with Zombie Finger? Seems like a couple of times a day my phone doesn't respond until I make several attempts, switch fingers, or lick my finger tip. Seems like using a touch screen for real-time control could spell disaster.

I have an ASUS VT229H 21.5" Touch Monitor on a mini PC to control a CNC mill.
It responds just fine... so I wouldn’t expect it to be an issue for JMRI.

I have a smaller touch screen I use with JMRI on a RaspberryPi. It works pretty well.

For small control panels, you set the zoom so the panel fills the whole screen. If done right, this makes the touch points larger.
