Default Scale Trains GE Tier 4 Gevo erratic slow speed

I just purchased my first Scale Trains locomotive: A new-in-the box GE Tier 4 Gevo. And, of course the details and overall workmanship are awesome. I'm thrilled with it. I have a decoder ordered, so for now I'm running it on DC. I notice at a very slow speed (like barely moving) its motion 'stutters' a little. I don't get this with my Kato locomotives, they're smooth as silk. So, I'm just wondering if this is normal in DC with Scale Trains, and can I expect better slow-speed performance once I get the DCC decoder installed? Any insight would be appreciated.

How long have you been running it? Try running in both directions in slow and medium speed. Probably needs to be broken.

DCC definitely gives you better slow-speed performance, but it also sounds like your loco needs to be broken-in.

I have just entered the Scale Trains arena my self. Three things. Good break in time, CLEAN track, & clean wheels. I was having the very same problems running DC on my layout. I even broke down and bought a CMX track cleaner car. Never realized how filthy my track was. Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, clean track, wheels and break-in time are important issues. I'll let in run forward and reverse for a period of time before jumping to conclusions that there's something wrong. I appreciate your responses.
