    To Steve's comment that the Roo needs to be somewhere, I would take this and put the Roo somewhere in the green space, above the yellow line. Of if you really want to be bold, a big one that starts at the grill and down towards the yellow line.

    I use software called Canvas, it costs a few hundred bucks, but I think there is a free program called Inkscape that has most of the same functionality.

    king, I was looking at that as well. Maybe I should use a model of the train/s I will actually be using instead of this practice one so I/we can see exactly how things will look and where things might go.

    @wombat457

    Moose used a combination of Inkscape and Affinity Photo to create recent decals.

    More versions than I can shake a stick at ...

    I still like this early version best, it is unique, especially the 'roo in the circle, colors are both vibrant (the bit of yellow) and elegant, my 2 cents.

    Great looking design. Fun thread! I think that yellow diagonal would look smart as three thin yellow pinstripes. But that’s probably the CNJ in me. Can’t wait to see the final product.

    As soon as I can get an undecorated ES44AC or SD70MAC, I'll do some mockups and see the exact colors and exactly how it will look. Getting the shells is proving to be more than just a little challenging

    Here's another one, if I may borrow Sumner's image.

    Take the yellow Australian National and move it into the green half. It'll show nicely with the yellow contrasting the green. Maybe just slightly larger font.

    In the silver half, have just the Roo in the green circle, but larger and centered.

    Hmmm, I contacted Kato (USA) yesterday about the availability of undecorated replacement shells for the engines I will be using, according to Kato customer service, Kato will not be making unpainted replacement shells for their engines due to the cost of (get this) assembling the shells/bodies. After taking a close look at my Kato shells I really can't see what assembly they are talking about. Seems to me that the shell (only) is a one piece molded shell with no assembly needed. In short, if you need to replace your Kato shell for some reason it looks like you have to buy a complete engine and go from there.

    I don't know if this is a "general" Kato decision or if it is only Kato USA but in my opinion it is a ridiculous decision if they are not going to make replacements.

    Not trying to start a flame war or product bashing thread Tony.
    This is one gripe I have about KATO, while they make a great product, they don't support it. When it's gone.... it's gone.
    Oh they may re-run things once in a while. Which kills me because the stuff would sell.

    Now Atlas on the other hand, they also make a good product, and they support the hell out of their stuff, for the most part.
    I'm referring to repair parts. You ruin a shell, you can find another one pretty much with ease without searching to the ends of the earth of it and then paying through the nose for it.

    I just don't get that?
    I know tooling fails and stocking parts takes $$, blah blah blah.
    There's a bazillion reasons why, but still...

    @Allen H.

    Your right - this IS NOT going to become a "product bashing thread" as Kato is not the only company that doesn't provide replacement shells/bodies; however, if it does become a "lets bash Kato thread", the entire thread can be removed.
    Cheers Tony

    I think Kato USA's problem is they have a hard time getting Kato Japan to give them factory time. Maybe if they were allocated more production resources by the parent company they wouldn't have to be so careful about wasting time on frivolous things like 'spare parts'. Anyway, thanks to the magic of video games, we don't need a physical model. Digital models are pretty handy for planning. So much so that I just constantly plan and never paint actual models. (send help)

    I'm a big fan of option #45930285.8747, so I mocked it up in 3D.
