When it come to the issue of which stays clean.
I have to say that I see no difference and did run trains with both metal and plastic wheels however I am a clean freak.
I cleaned my track only once a year with an occasional vacuuming of the track and the layout was in a finished basement climate controlled and pretty much dust free.
I only use MT trucks with low pro MT plastic wheels, my cars with metal wheels are a mix of what I call low priced consisting of Minitrix, early Atlas, Lifelike and some others that came with low flange wheels cars that had the pizza cutters have been replaced with MT trucks and MT Pow Profile plastic wheels and I run on Atlas Code 55 track, with over 5 years of running I never have cleaned any wheels either on my cars of locos!!!
