Default What are you buying this month? (September 2021)

Should have been posted in July but I missed it, so I put it here.
I spent all but a few days, last July, in Alaska.
This was purchased while I was there and all bought in the Fairbanks depot.
The best purchase was the ride on the 1:1.
Gold Star Service on the Denali Star.

I've been assembling and painting buildings at a furious pace, but nothing is "set in stone" yet except the location of the La Salle station. I've decided to add another touch of the fifties downtown environment and ordered several rooftop signs from Miller Engineering. That should force me to plant those migrating businesses into the ground. And consider a lighting plan for them.

I've also checked out several retailers before buying direct so I know where some of the sold out and early issue billboards might be had.

Amtrak GG1s 913 and 918 arrived last night. Pretty cool that Kato chose to model some of the 16 survivors. I've seen 4800, 4859, 4913(AMTK 913), and 4935.

A couple of small purchases this past week.

I needed some styrene tube for my lighthouse build so I stopped at the local Hobby Lobby to pick up some 3/8" Evergreen. Decided to stock up on the various sizes while I was there.

Was also looking for paint color ideas for an upcoming project so I also stopped at Michael's on the other side of town. Found a nice little 6 pack of acrylic in a country farmhouse theme. Also picked up some of my favorite project storage boxes.

Care to count how many unfinished projects I have?

I'm not buying much this month. Here's a photo of purchases.

Most obvious are the two Tesla T3s. Everything else came from Swiss Model Rail. Below the Teslas is a snack machine and a coffee machine; next to the right are 2 ticket machines for the BLS. Then 3 recycling receptacles, followed by 4 SBB/RhB ticket machines. Continuing to the right are various signs and a couple of bus stops.

    That's all for now, folks!

Purchases from several sources to show.
    20210915_143816.jpg
The Krylon paint was from the local Lowe's.
The N&W Cylindrical Hopper and the unassembled/unpainted brown M/T 40 ft. trailer are from Brooklyn Locomotive Works. Found the hopper on their "Odds & Ends" page. You never know what you will find there. I have been looking for the hopper for sometime. The prototype for my layout saw these N&W cylindrical hoppers frequently for an industry called Celotex. Bowser made these but they have been out of production for sometime. They recently announced a new run with different road-numbers. Unfortunately, they won't be as cheap as this one was, even if I need to change the trucks and couplers.
The Miniprints are an ATV (we call them Quads) and 3 bears.
The assembled/ unpainted white M/T 48 ft. trailer and the green Roundhouse 50 ft. FMC Plug Door Box car in Conrail lettering were from Caboose Stop Hobbies in Iowa, USA. I also bought some HOn30 stuff but you don't want to see that. The boxcar was an impulse buy. No, I was not in Iowa. They do something pretty unique. Every Wednesday they do a live YouTube show where they show the latest inventory for each scale, including the prices. HO-scale at 7:00 PM, N-scale at 7:30 PM and O-scale at 8:00 PM Central time. The videos are posted on YouTube so if you missed the live show you can watch it later. If you watch live, you can participate in the chat and ask questions and claim items. You need to call the next day to work out payment and shipment. In addition to purchasing from the various manufacturers, they buy out closing hobby shops and personal collections. This is another place where you never know what you will see. I think the prices are pretty good and the shipping reasonable. I gotta say I was impressed by the packaging. The box car and the trailer came in their own jewel cases but the HOn30 stuff was without a box. They individually wrapped each tiny coal car in bubble wrap, all eight of them, and then put them a bubble wrap bag. That is more patience then I have. Check them out!
Cheers and stay safe all! Maurice
PS: I have absolutely no connection with any of these businesses other than being a satisfied customer.

Unfortunately my NCE Power Cab decided it was time to move on to electronics heaven and I cant get it to even boot up now. So I decided to jump ahead to future plans and went out and got a Digitrax EVOXD Evolution Express Duplex. I am planning on hooking it up to my computer to eventually use a train control software. Just need to pick up some decoders and accessories to finish wiring the the blocking i have set up and start planning for future signaling and the switches to work thru it.

For some reason I didn't buy the add-on set back when I got the 10-car Broadway Limited. Fixed that.

Scored 3 Bachmann Penn Central Metroliner Dummies from eBay over the weekend. The bodies look pretty good for castings from the late 1960s. Not sure if I'm going to do a Kato RDC powered chassis or just a non powered chassis/truck swap from something else. Either way I need to find some decals and pantographs!
