20-230 turnout no electrical throw

I have a kato 20-230 left hand double track crossover for a couple months. Have been throwing switch manually. Just connected power to throw and no go. Any suggestions?

What device are you using to throw the switches?

Eventually a Ken Stapleton 751k but just using bare wires to test. Applying 12v dc directly to contacts, momentarily, of course.

That one takes about 4 times the momentary current of a single Kato turnout. If your supply is extremely weak, it might overload it momentarily.
Do you know find the current/power capacity of your 12V supply (usually given as amps or as "VA")?

The other remote possibility is that your 12V is really 12V AC, not DC. I know the Stapleton handheld throttles require AC inputs and a lot of the
accessory power from DC packs is often AC as well. Is that possible?
