Default What are you buying this month? October 2021

Bought several houses this month through ETSY.com. 1920s house (resin kit), 20th Ave house (wood kit) & Log cabin (wood kit). Haven't started on these.

I liked my first Rapido C40-8M BC Rail so much, I purchased a second one. Also DCC/Sound. This one stays in the jewel case until I'm ready to run it when not working on the layout.

As an update for those who read my post regarding "put your toys away after use", Rapido did send replacement parts for the first loco that took the nose dive at no charge. I just need to make time to repair the Loco.

I snagged a great deal on eBay! For a steal! They are as follows. I grabbed three model kits. They are as follows the Walthers six storage tanks kit, Model power gantry crane and Bachman crossing gates. There’s a IMEX fuel storage tanks & an Bachman N scale accessory kit.
There are three woodland scenics figures also one faller and one custom paint one also. Plus I received four n scale vehicles as an bonus!!!

The second deal was for the two BLI two six pack coal hopper set. Plus I have two more Intermountain F7b units on the way. There’s a few things that I will not be using. For example the Santa Fe freight truck and the crossing gates with accessories. I will have them listed later on.

I didn't actually buy any new trains, I just bought little plastic boxes that go on my trains.

Also, I found this on eBay. A modern UP modeler can never have enough EMP containers!

The seller was a hobby shop in Florida. They sold it for MSRP, but shipping was free, and this is out of production, soooo...

Picked up 4 Alco RS1 shells from that large auction site.

Going to try to paint them in these colors:

    unnamed.jpg

except that the lettering will be for the Pinnacle & Western.

But first I'm going to have to practice A LOT on some old Bachmann shells.

Yes, they're shaped like diesels, but everybody knows that an ALCo RS is an honorary steam engine of sorts.

Anyways, not only do I love ALCo engines but I also have always had a fondness for that CP paint scheme. Really looking forward to how this will turn out. Regarding the livery, though, you might need to adapt it since the hoods are low on an RS-1. There's not much room for the maroon on top, in other words. So maybe you take inspiration and use the colors, but not quite the exact mapping of color regions. Maybe the lettering should be in the dulux gold, so that you can make the grey stripe thinner, and let the lettering spill over onto the maroon background (perhaps use a maroon drop shadow to help the letters to pop?)

How will you be making the custom lettering?

Yeah, I first saw this paint scheme on Virtual Railfan.

Downloaded several images of the scheme applied to different locomotives.

There's this photo of a nice low-nose version which I'll probably adapt for the RS-1's and other PWRR low-noses.
I have also found the scheme applied to an old E or F unit as well as a modern unit.

    cp.htm17.jpg

This project is just getting started so there's still a lot of decisions to be made.

Do I go with PWRR or spell out Pinnacle & Western on the sides?

I've already decided on the road numbers for the 4 RS-1's.

I'm thinking I can probably find the yellow nose and side stripes as off-the-shelf decals.
The lettering and numbers will most likely be custom decals. I'm already putting together a custom decal order for my fleet of ore cars, so I can include these in the order also.

And then there's always the challenge of finding 'EXACTLY' the right paint color .

Anyone know a good source for the reflective markers on the frame sides?

Someone from Nscale yard sale told me about the local hobby shop in his area. It happen to have two of the Intermountain F7B units that I have been looking for. To finish the search for the Intermountain F7B’s. I am currently waiting on the decoders for the locomotives. All I need now is the last F7A unit that they have made #932.

    Too many boxcars at once

Working night shift this week allowed me to be home during the day, and take part in a Stout train auction online. 22 LBF excess height boxcars in one lot. It's one thing I don't like about Stout is their lot sizes, hell, 1 lot had 76 cars in it alone. Makes it almost unreasonable for the average person to bid on items but I got lucky on this one. 247318876_201971535344307_6911978649032652527_n.jpg

This is a sister locomotive to Spirit of Anchorage that I bought last July in AK.
I found this one, Spirit of Denali, last week in NC.

I wanted to add some sliding tarp cars to my modern European freight and I picked up some reasonably priced tankers now that I was paying shipping anyway. Some of them are fairly old models, but they're mostly meant to be parked by an oil/fuel depot. Maybe I'll practice weathering on them eventually.
Quite a colorful haul, this one

Looks like the BP stromeyer cars are in fact fantasy models. While the company does exist, there are no pictures of a prototype anywhere on the web. A similar car is listed in an old Märklin catalog as 'Werbewagen' ie. they're made for advertising purposes. Never mind, I like them anyway.

Default 10 more items purchased during October.

From Etsy: 1920s Sears Farmhouse, Barn, Bungalow with Garage, Matt's House, Under Construction, Window Treatments, Large Dumpster (shows other sizes), Helicopter, Suburban Bungalow #1, UK Passenger Bus. I have to assemble and paint these during the winter except for the Dumpster & Bus. Will try to place curtains inside the buildings.
