I've finished converting a Bachmann 2-8-0 into a Milwaukee Road 2-6-2. After going through many prototype photos, I found that the 929 was closest to the Bachmann loco in some details. The tender is modified from an old Atlas 0-8-0.

I had just posted to my blog on here about the trials I was having with my Pioneer Zephyr kit, put it on a live track, and then this happened!

I’ve been a bit lazy on posting things but they are getting done!

First, completed the roadbed around my planned industrial area. Somewhere an inch or so was lost, resulting in having to make changes to the track plan to make it all fit, but I was able to eventually do that and lay the roadbed.

I also made a couple of turnouts and a piece of straight track:

I've finished converting a Bachmann 2-8-0 into a Milwaukee Road 2-6-2.

Nice. Did that effect the pulling power at all, and what did you use for the trailing truck?

It did not seem to affect the pulling power much, as the traction tire drivers are still there. The wheelset for the trailing truck came from a Kato 2-8-2. I replaced that with solid wheels from the junk box, as the wheels do not show in the Kato truck frame.

I used pan pastels to add color to my craft foam roads in the New Milford area, then added some road markings. I still need to seal it all with dullcoat and weather the roads some more to tone down the stripes and markings. there are more photos in my Housatonic RR layout thread: https://www.nscale.net/forums/showth...438#post626438

That scene represents the intersection of Rt. 202 and Railroad Street, in New Milford, CT. It is about 20 minutes from Danbury, CT.

Well, I haven't been there since about 1973, but that could be any street or station along the Amtrak line between Chicago and Detroit, or between KC and Chicago. It just looks so familiar! Well done!

I'm done converting couplers on my European rolling stock from standard to Fleischmann Profi.
Sidetracked in the process was:
a) two tankers (that's okay, I have five more which are purdier and more than enough for a future fuel track)
b) two DB InterCity coaches (that's okay, I'll just have to settle for 9 coaches in the IC consist )
and finally
c) the Minitrix BR 103.1 - and that's ... well ... less than okay.

But they're old models, so I guess that's par for the course. That particular model of the 103 was manufactured between 1986 and 1993.
I did check before deciding on the conversion. I didn't take the models apart, however, but I assumed that it would somehow be possible to open the coupler housing to replace the coupler. After all, there is a small spring in there like in most older coupler housings. But no, it's glued or welded or molded together or whatever, so to replace the coupler you need to replace the entire truck frame - and you still can't swap the coupler for a different type.

Oh well, I guess I'll keep the 103 around for now and if I want to give it a spin, maybe swap one coupler on a passenger coach back to standard. Most of my passenger coaches have NEM coupler docks, so it's a 10 second operation. The other cars are going to the leftover/misc parts bin.

Updated my blog for the first time in a while. I was able to rip out some bad track and replace it this week. I even started scenery. All the underside wiring was finished last week, but I’m waiting for a shipment to finish the last section which honestly is still drying a bit too. And I still need to cut gaps in a few places before I turn on power.

Next up, more scenery and running my first trains if not next week, the week after.
