    Default MTL UP Arrowedge Container

Just saw this on Micro-Trains' latest release news - interesting development for intermodal modelers:

For those that don't know, it's a dummy 48' container placed at the top stack of the frontmost well car unit of UP doublestack trains to aid in aerodynamics to maximize fuel economy (and thus reduce costs). It was introduced around a decade ago. It isn't used on all doublestacks though since UP only has a limited number of these in their fleet.

I did notice that the MTL model is a kit that you have to assemble and add decals. Wassup with that?

You can do the same today with a Shapeways 3D model and existing decals. The price is around the same. I hope MTL's version is at least pre-painted.

The other problem is that it's a Micro-Trains container. Their pins DO NOT stack with containers from other companies. I avoid MTL containers because of this (and because their 53' containers do not fit in the Kato, DI or JTC 53' well cars). I would probably have to modify this to be compatible with the Kato/ScaleTrains/Athearn pin spacing of the majority of my 53' containers.

Many people use museum blobs/sticky blobs to use mismatched containers so is no big deal.

A step up from the paper ones I have tried to build with no success.

Yeah, I've done that with DI Container Glue/Putty...Problem is, it's sooooooo time-consuming. Easier just to just stack one on top of the other. And the JTC containers have that prototypical gap between them that I love.

Buy another MT container to stick under it, mismatch pin problem solved. They do have a 48' container kit showing on their website
