Beside the Car System chassis, I also received number board decals from ShellScale. Ordered both on the same day, and even though one traveled about 10x as far as the other, they also arrived on the same day

    Here's what's in the package:

Two separate chassis (one for mounting the motor vertically, one horizontally), both including a geared axle. One motor with worm gear. One front axle with "swing joint" (or whatever the technical term is), one holder for a second rear axle, a piece of steel wire for the second rear axle, four rear wheels with tires and some electronic parts.

The axle holder fits either chassis, but for the horizontally mounted motor, I'll need a non-magnetic axle. The included steel axle will lift to the motor. Simple to fix.

I'll try and fit the chassis to a Kato Volvo tractor and then go for some PCB design work to add infrared DCC control and lots of LEDs.

Yesterday the postman brought a small mobile crane from Shapeways. I've been considering what type of coal crane to use for my coal bunker area that will be fairly small, but still needs to service an occasional large steamer. I decided on a type which can be found at the Harz narrow gauge railways' depot in Wernigerode.

    @Moose2013

Have you sourced a Spectrum Slopeback tender for that 0-6-0 project yet?
Or have you decided to stay with the original?

Moose has one from an old project gone sideways that will be used for the 0-6-0 project...

However, it's funny you should ask, because Moose has been thinking about getting one to use for a 4-6-0 conversion project. Come to think of it, it may not have to be a slope-back tender as Moose has to scratch-build a tender shell regardless. If there's another DCC-ready Spectrum tender of the same length as the slope-back tender, then it would still work.

Why ever so do you ask, good sir?

Well… I know a guy that bought several of each type of spectrum tenders when “thefavoritespot” on eBay was blowing them out 15 years ago for $10 each. They’ve been in storage since…or so I’ve been told.
He says, excluding drawbar and rear coupler, overall frames measure -
    Slopeback 1.900
    Short 2.190
    Medium 2.352
    Long 2.780
    Vanderbilt 3.586
I could probably talk to him if you’d like… He owes me a favor or two…

Ohhh nooo, if there's a DCC-ready one, then Moose would want a slope-back tender ... But, Moose needs to successfully complete this 0-6-0 project first...

This one make my 6th one. No complaints they run very smooth right from the start. Here’s a video of it double headed with another Scale Trains Gevo pulling my wife’s Tropicana train.

That's alot of juice. I assume the oranges are hauled in by hopper. I lived close to the Tropicana plant in Bradenton, Florida. How that place reeked of rotten fruit! When you gonna tell her all those cars need different road numbers!?

For a brief second I thought you were talking about me, But I'm pretty sure I don't know you personally. But I too have a stash of Spectrum tenders of all sizes hidden away and bought from TheFavoriteSpot way back in the 2010's. There's a saying about prying from cold dead hands... But I might make an exception. I know I still need at least two for my PRR A5 0-4-0 projects.

Unfortunately, the slope-backed Spectrum tender is the only one that's NOT DCC ready. At least I'm pretty sure based on the last time I opened one up ( last year when I was checking into using a ESU Nano - it fits BTW ). It has the power pickups on the trucks but none of the usual internals for DCC. Apparently Bachmann didn't think there was room enough for anything DCC in it (and probably wasn't at the time, but decoders have gotten crazy small since then).

The Spectrum USRA short tender, however, does have all the DCC junk and is only a few (N scale) feet longer than the slope-back. If you're going to make a new shell for it anyway, then it might not be a bad choice.

    My second V7 double crossover arrived a day early.2023-01-17 004 Purchase Arrival.jpg

I added on a decoder which is for the MT SW1500's but is supposed to work in the LL and Walthers SW9/1200's with motor isolation. Before I purchase a bunch of these, I want to ensure I can wire them up properly and that they function as advertised.2023-01-17 005 Decoder for LL SW91200.jpg

I also threw in a bottle of WS Accent Glue for the figures destined to occupy the layout. I already paid the shipping for the crossover and I know I'll need it in the not too distant future.2023-01-17 006 WS Accent Glue For Figures.jpg

I added a decoder to my MT SW1500 and it was pretty easy to do. Yes you will have to totally disassemble the loco and isolate the motor but that is fairly simple. I suggest that you test the direction once you solder wires onto the motor and install the decoder (before soldering the wires to the decoder). I found that my SW1500 ran backwards when I wired it up following the instructions from Digitrax and also the instructions on the TCS website. Now what I say will also depend on if your SW1500 is DCC ready or not. Mine was not so I had to add wires to the motor myself.

Picked up a few things at the LHS this morning.

Picked up 2 packages of the 45 degree super elevated concrete tie curves to replace the 4 slab track pieces currently in use. Grabbed their last easement package as well. Fortunately an order for unitrack had already been placed with their supplier a couple of days prior and the second easement needed should be here in a week.
    2023-01-18 001 Corners and Easement.jpg

Purchased the (hopefully) last of the unitrack turnouts. They only had one switch controller left. I ordered 2 more through Amazon and they should be here Friday. Then one more package of the 28-1/4" radius curves.
    2023-01-18 002 Turnouts and CTurnback Curve.jpg

Finally I grabbed 2 RH and 1 LH Atlas code 80 custom line turnouts for the future engine facility. I want to control these with Tortoise switch machines so I can have indicator LED's on the control panel.

Post human delivered some wee packages today.

Some generic traction tires to try on the Con-Cor 4-8-4s:
    20230118 TractionTires.jpg

A pair of Atlas contact strips to try on an RS-1:
    20230118 AtlasContactStrips.jpg

Note: Moose lining up a moose stampede to trample some customer service sense into Atlas's collective noggin. Yep, they didn't have the expensive parts that Moose had ordered that justified the $5.50 shipping, but sent the $2.00 worth of parts they did have. Moose felt sooo good when recently ordering parts from Athearn -- top notch customer service. Then feel bad when getting this kind of service from Atlas...
