Post Weekend Update (27th Jan 2023)

Please update us on the progress you have made on your MRR projects this week (commencing: 27th Jan 2023).

This weekly thread is to post little snippets about your layout/project progress.
This is not be a substitute for your layout build thread, but just a mini update on what you got done for the week.

You can link from your layout build thread to your posts in this thread as a part of a more extensive post there, or visa-versa (post to your build thread and link to that post when contributing to this thread.

Click on a post's #number (right-hand end of the post header) to get the URL to that particular post in your browsers address bar.
Copy and paste this as needed.

So, fellow nSn'ers, what have you been up to this week?

You go the extra mile to emulate the prototype!

I'm currently lining up for the engine service area, making sure that the buildings and structures can go where I want them. Not all tracks are there, but you can probably see the outline of what's coming.

The turntable is Walthers 130' model, which needs some work. It's DCC and I have had it working on my last layout, but for me it's a pain to use. It does remember the bridge positions, but each position has two DCC switch addresses - one for each direction. That's one thing, but what really annoys me is that the bridge reverses track polarity through a dead zone, meaning that when turning, the track loses power for a brief moment causing a decoder to restart, which of course is silly for sound decoders. Maybe a small thing, but it matters to me.

So - I've stripped all DCC out of the bridge and I'm going to run it with just a potmeter dial and a direction switch. I've also rewired the pit. I will need to make a new circuit board for the bridge, but at least it has fours sets of pickups - two for track and two for the bridge motor. The track polarity will be handled by a reverser. I have a spare Lenz LK200 I can use for it.

Love that mix of greenery, shades and textures are really nicely balanced. Really changed the scene from 'abandoned quarry waiting for Dr. Who filming' to a beautiful hillside.
