    Default Ohio train derailment

Located the derailment. The train was eastbound so it looks like it occurred at a trailing point switch. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8357.../data=!3m1!1e3

I read on one news site it was a faulty axle. I guess the engineer reported getting an indicator light up, it just before the derailment occured

Huh? That's not what I read. Sounds more like the crew got either a hot-bearing alarm or a dragging equipment alarm over the radio just before they noticed the derailment.

I read the same. Maybe a hot axle bearing! Or perhaps the keniffle pin.

    From NPR news:

Federal investigators had announced earlier Sunday that a mechanical issue with a rail car axle caused the fiery derailment near the Pennsylvania state line Friday night.
Michael Graham, a board member of the National Transportation Safety Board, said at a news conference that the three-member train crew received an alert about the mechanical defect "shortly before the derailment" but said the board was still working to determine which rail car experienced the issue.

There's this about a mile and a half west of the derailment, but I don't see anything on the ties like the defect detectors around here have. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8362...7i13312!8i6656

    Try here: 214 OH-165

Those are dragger paddles and they're on each main.

    Dropped pin

If NS is using the same brand of DED detector and version of software as my sites do, the detector will alarm immediately when the paddle is struck and also immediately identify the closest axle.
