Default Interesting things i learn the hard way/Vol 2

Wowsa, this has been a stellar week for me destroying things
Today ws a fair weather day here in southern Indiana so i decided to work on my Olympic train torch flat car i found on Etsy
So off the garage to hit the car with my baking soda blaster to abrade the surface in preperation for paint
I proceed with caution because even though its just baking soda at 60 psi i wanted to be sure it wasent removing any of the fine detail on the car
A little test shot on the botton proves no problems so i blast the entire car and comes out smooth as silk with no loss of detail
My little caboose is waging with glee knowing im gonna make some good progress on this today
So the next thing i do is drop the parts in my ultrasonic cleaner, set it for thirty minuets and go about my day working on a honey do project for a couple hours.
so,upon returning to retreive the parts out of the cleaner to rinse the soap water off and let air dry this is what i find.
I dont even want to talk about how much i paid for this but it was the higest price i have ever paid for a single rolling stock thats not a powered locomotive.
Lesson learned today is you cant put 3d resin printed parts in a ultra sonic cleaner.Add this mishap to the 2 Soundtrax Mini Cube 3 speakers i fried a couple of days ago and the total losses for being edcuated is now in the three figure bracket.
I once had a job in a maching shop that had a wall mounted device that had a boot mounted on a pivot and you stood in front of it and pulled a rope you received a nice swift kick in the ass. That was for when someone scraped their work and had to start the job over
Looks like ill need to build one for my shop.

Ouch. I feel your pain. We have all had regretful mistakes. The important thing here though, by sharing, anyone now reading this has also learned an important lesson. Now I feel I am indebted to you. Is "Thanks" enough or do you take venmo...?

Steve, I'm glad I could be of help to those that may have thought about trying the same thing.
My logic was that I have cleaned 1/25 scale cast resin model parts and never had a problem so I thought 3d printed resin would be the same. I'm so far down the rabbit hole in this project I'm gonna order another one so I can continue.

The car probably wasn’t resin. Many home RP unit use a polymer “wire” that they melt and spray to form the models. The laser/resin models are usually a milky clear and very brittle.

The seller advertised it as resin but it does have a milky color about it.
My cleaner has a heater but I did not have it on during. The cycle
Running it for 30 minutes will turn the water Luke warm
I like using the heater for cleaning my airbrush/spray guns or thing made of steel or aluminum.

Aw, man, what a bummer about the caboose.

That would be fine to share that info. I have started painting v 2.0 and hope to have it done in a couple of weeks.
Loving the fine detail on your print. I'm finding there aren't many high quality photos or videos of the prototype torch car but I think I have enough info from the ones I did find to get close enough for the colors

Lmk. I have a very large database taken from the museum. Also a tip on decals. The nose of the car doesn’t have a specific decal in the set i offer. Have to use spare flakes on the sheet to build the nose.

Im not sure what you mean by the nose,is it the part in the middle with the olympic rings and the cutout silhouette of the runner with the flame?
What museum has the cauldron car?Everything is going good so far, doing more detail painting, getting the trucks fit up and working on the couplers
I changed my search term to olympic cauldron car and came up with some better pics for color reference.
