@CP BC Railfan Hello and welcome, A few of the usual questions do need to be asked Most importantly, 'The Big one', hold breath, Steam or diesel ??? Next up, CP or CN or other ? Once we get these points cleared up we can pigeon hole you a bit better

Have fun and post lots. Let us know of any progress etc.
    Thanks, Tom

Careful CP BC Railfan, this sounds like some loaded questions, LoL.

Glad to have you aboard, @CP BC Railfan! I look forward to seeing your progress once you have enough posts to do photos. I'm sure a certain moose will jump in to politely explain the consequences of failing to post progress and acquisitions photos.

hi i have been a railway model enthusiast for around 10 years but have only really built 00 gauge and have built a 3% incline into a figure of eight layout on an L shaped baseboard. I am a wheelchair user, ex forces Royal Engineers and have a lovely family. I attend a club in Bloxwich and we are building an N gauge layout of Walsall Station circa 1960 as it was a great station with 6 platforms at one time until its renovation in the 70's. I have joined this forum as I found it by a search on Silver Creek by Jason Stamper and I am going to try and build this wonderful layout on my baseboard. again thank you for your welcoming words

Thumbs up Glad to be here...again?

I thought for sure I had registered to post before, but it seems I had lurked. Shame on me if so!

Well, you can call me Mike, and I'd been raised in the hobby only to leave it when the fairer sex popped up on the radar. Back in the day, it was just entry HO from Tyco, Bachmann, Life-Like, etc, but I'd dipped my toe back in every few years to see what was up in the hobby, but not jump back in until about 5 years ago wen I decided New York apartment living might accommodate N scale (Z seemed too limited in variety).

Without the space for a permanent fixed layout, modular is what I aim for, and with modern local industry in mind (yards, sidings). I hope I can learn more about how I can achieve, maintain, and improve on that from being here...or remaining here.

    Thanks guys/gals(?)!

Just to follow up on any advice, I saw @DCUTTTING had delved into the local modern New York City freight world, but as he's not active on here now, is there anyone else on here who has and whom I could could pick their brain?

Hi, years ago I started an HO layout and after a couple of moves I never stuck with it. I'm getting back into it with n scale and will begin with a diorama to get some practice on techniques before I begin a layout. Being from New England Boston and Maine is my line of choice and have a few ideas but nothing set in stone yet. I can't wait to get my hands dirty and get things rolling. I have an undecorated gp40 shell on order from atlas that I will be painting and applying decals. My layout size plans are around 7 feet by 14 feet. This should give me lots of space for details. Thanks for having me. Looking forward to learning.

    Default New member from UK.

Greetings all, signing in from Farnham, Surrey.
I have been advised that this is the site to be on, I am a English modeler who just happens to have a some American rolling stock. Professionally I am a design engineer not that that means much here in the UK, worked for Ericsson Mobile Phones in the 90's, then BAE Systems for the big USA, until redundancy, now working for a small outfit doing sticks and shifts. Still its work.
Been model railwaying for 40 years on and off, mainly off as I get depressed with the UK market, if it is not "Gods Wonderful Railway" then it's not worth doing.. There was a lot more to the UK system. I personal like the LNER and the Gresleys in his big steam, the American stock I have is a Rivarossi/Con-Cor Big Boy, a few Mallets, FEF, and GS-4, and Southern Pacifics Daylight, the California Zephra, and a few hoppers and box vans, nothing major and a AC-12 which I was given some years back.
As I mentioned I like LNER and Gresleys steam and one of the thinks I am trying to get together is a U1 with 60 coal wagons, a small train compared to American Railroad standards.
    Anyway to all have fun.
    Gordon Holmes.

    You have a AC-12 You're a lucky man.

I spent 22 years in Alton (Hants) so not far down the road from you and worked just off the Shepherd & Flock. Turned a car over there too !!!

Anyway, Good to have you onboard.
