    Default Charles Prettyman

Hi - this is my introduce yourself post -

I'm in the "returning to the hobby after a long absence" category. I had a small (4' x 4') layout that I put together in my teens - nothing special, and never really completed it. It never really had a dedicated space, when I went off to college, it got packed away.
Then, eventually, I graduated, and got a job with an architectural firm in New York, and lived for a couple of years in Hoboken, before eventually buying a house, and having kids.
I pulled the old layout out from my mothers attic when we bought that first house, and rain trains on it for a bit, and then dabbled in N-Track for a while, but (shocker), the kids and career started taking up time. And when we moved, it all went into boxes, and was tucked into storage for 15 years.
But, my kids have now graduated college, and I have a little space set aside, and so I'm dusting things off, and trying get the layout that I have been pondering from my imagination onto paper, and then, hopefully, into reality.

Details of that layout have been posted in the layout planning and design thread - in the hopes of some advice, and constructive criticism.

    Default New to the hobby

    Hi all,

New to the hobby. My brother is heavily into it and my nephew works for CN. Looking forward to learning and getting started. I did pick up an Arduino and pieces for DCC so I'm on my way. Just need to figure out the track and trains.

Welcome to the hobby and to the Forums it sounds as though you have a very good start in the hobby.

As Gordon (above) mentioned you will receive well thought out, clear and decisive answers to any and all questions you may have ... whether or not those answers relate to what your asking or have any real value might be questionable in themselves - none the less, they WILL be well thought out responses

As for the humor - hmm, this is nSn, we do not humor here - it is forbotten - ahh where was I? Oh yeah, humor in the forums, doesn't happen, never will, not allowed, banned, etc etc etc ESPECIALLY if you do not post updates of your work, pictures, your credit card details, social security number, address, phone numbers applicable, car registration numbers, all pertinent info pertaining to yourself, family, friends, relatives, enemies and work place associates. We take security here very VERY seriously

And one last thing - welcome to the best forums around and please, ask as many questions as you need remembering NONE are stupid. We really do have some of the most experienced and knowledgeable people in N Scale here and all really are more than willing to help. The most important thing though - have FUN both in the forums and with the hobby

Oh, one last thing - "Beware of the Moose!!!!!"
    Cheers Tony

    @bhoneydew

Moose bids you a hearty welcome to the greatest wee n-scale forum on the interweb!

Remember to post photos and post often.

If Moose were more awake, Moose would recite the nSn rules. There are many. It takes hours of serious study to learn them all. You'll just have to learn them as you go. Some are more important than others. Learn those quickly and no one gets hurt...

Although, Moose must point out a few things ... First off, this is an all-steam locomotive forum; disease'els are not allowed. All members have to build at least one wooden trestle; some members that excel at trestle building have to build a second trestle with a curve just to be all trickular - that's not really a rule, but someone showing off, darn show off, but Moose digresses ... Oh, beware, tiny Martians sometimes invade layouts, as do spiders, so keep a Kirby or Hoover on standby.

Again, welcome to the nSn forum...

@bhoneydew Welcome. We will of course be needing some more details about your intended N direction. You are going to be modeling CP steam era aren't you ?

I see you've encountered the local wildlife (both of them !!) They breathe a lot of hot air but don't bite (much)

Don't ever listen to what I say or you'll end up a fruitcake too
    Thanks, Tom

    Hello, @bhoneydew!

I see you've been greeted heartily and warmly. I have nothing else to add. Usually I do. Just beware of Moose and Wombat -- they're a lot like the Apple Dumpling Gang here.

Oh, and diesels are highly regarded here. ...

Thanks for the welcome emails. I was going to go with a west coast Canada theme. Not sure which way I'll go but the VIA Rapido F40 and LRC cars are calling me.
