    Default Returning to n scale

    I started my first N scale layout in a spare bedroom of our mobile home in the late '70's. When #2 son came along we needed the bedroom so the layout, such as it was, was dismantled. Life happened. About three years ago I saw an Ntrak display at a local shopping mall and that got me thinking about getting back into the hobby. I went out and bought an NCE Power Cab and a couple of DCC locomotives to compliment the rolling stock I had previously collected but didn't take things much further.

    And then I got a phone call from a long lost friend of mine who is planning to build an N scale layout and remembered that I used to be in the hobby. That has kicked the grey cells into high gear and I am doing a lot of research on building a layout. Still in the thinking and planning stage, I expect to have lots of questions over the next while.

    Welcome @tomkat to the best n scale forum on the interweb. Lots of info here to feed your research and a lot of helpful knowledgeable folks eager to assist. Sometimes you may even receive information overload.

    Just remember rule #1. It's your railroad. Rule #2 is have fun in this great hobby. Rule #3 post lots of pictures once you reach 30 posts. This will avoid a stampede from our neighborhood @Moose2013. He needs his train porn fix. He isn't alone but is the most vocal of the bunch when denied his daily dose.
    Grant.

    Default Hello Forum

    Hello everyone,

    I've been interested in model trains since I was young, watching the HO layout through the windows at the San Juan County fair in New Mexico during th '70s. Then life... a number of years ago I bought a HO for my oldest son and we played with that but never a layout. Dug that set out a few months ago for my youngest son but much of the track was broken. I've always been attracted to nScale so I started looking into that. About a month ago I got a Kato and we love it. Looking forward to building a layout.

    Through the years I've done woodworking, built balsa RC planes and a few other things I think will help me in this hobby.

    Thank you Bryan for this great site!

    Welcome, @GlennS! Looking forward to seeing what you create. There are many answers to your queries here. Some useful, some humorous. But it is a hobby and we are here to have fun and help each other along the way.

    @tomkat @GlennS

    Moose welcome you to the forum!

    There be rules here, but you can ignore all of them but those that Grant (aka @Silent1961 ) mentioned. Although, Grant seems to have gotten them out of sequence.

    They should be as follows:

    1. Post photos
    2. It's your railroad, so do what you want (and post photos of it)
    3. Post more photos, errr, have fun with this great hobby (by posting photos of your railroad modeling all of the time!)

    Hmmm, really, you should just treat them all as rule number 1, if Moose is being honest...

    Hi @immortalGoku1452, welcome to the forum. You'll get good advice here on anything you want to know, all you have to do is ask.
    But just be warned, Moose will want photos (but don't let that worry you!! lol)

    Default Hello from Maine

    Hello from Maine , name here is Mark . I've been a N scale modeler since the 1950's ,back in the day when the Engines did ' t stay on the track for long...LOL my favorite thing to do is making scale scenery and dioramas. I my self think of
    trains running through my scenery. Although I enjoy prototypical operations . For years I modeled in Erie Lackawanna but since I have retired to Maine . I am starting a new layout featuring the Maine Central Railroad. Steam and Diesel.
    I even have a Yankee Clipper to run over the mountain division in NH. the Layout will have vignettes of the Kennebec river , the Frankenstein trestle, Part of Rigby Yard in Portland, (lots of switching and classification operations. And The Maine country side flora and fauna. I scratch, kit-bash and what ever I need to . I am looking for some one to help with 126 feet of trackage and DCC electronics and CTC. I hope to meet people who enjoy the hobby and want to grow with it. I hope to see you here on N Scale. Net

    Welcome, @Casco Bay! We all look forward to seeing photos of the development of your layout - once you have sufficient posts to be able to do photos here.

    I'm sure that @Moose2013 will be able to help you locate some of his eastern relatives for your scenes.

    @Casco Bay

    Good to have you on board. I too look forward to seeing what you get up to. Will your layout incorporate any of those beautiful Main coves ? Eg.

    As el Gato Gordo says, you'll need a few posts before you can upload photos. But, once you're there, no excuses

    All the best

    Tom
    Thanks, Tom

    Wow, now that's quite a feat, seeing as N scale didn't debut commercially until 1962! Bet you meant 1960's or 1970's? Or were you one of the few pioneers back in the day?

    Welcome anyway!
