I love this statement. I don't think I've ever quite seen it expressed like that.

Welcome to our little forum. You have judged quite rightly -- there are no trolls or rude people here. Everyone is helpful and supportive, and we love seeing each other succeed at making our visions come true on our layouts.

We do offer plenty of constructive criticism, but I've never seen it be anything but 100% polite.

The "little" was meant ironically. Guess I should've put quote marks around it. Heheh.

Welcome Eli and to your brother! Looking forward to your progress and remember, if you have a question about some part of the hobby or layout building just ask. Someone on this forum will either know the answer or know where to look it up and get you to the right spot.

    Again welcome!

    Thanks for the welcome replies.

I've been doing a lot of surfing and have noticed that things have come a long way since 10 years ago for n-scale. Living in a one bedroom apartment, I too picked N for space reasons. It's great to see how far the hobby has come since then!

Welcome to the greatest wealth of personalities on the net!

Like it has been said here, even with space... I think N is where I'd still be. Everything is so good looking and runs so well. Price is still high to me for what you get, but I can live with it. Just think of how much less compression you would need to figure out for N scale if you had the real estate required for HO.

Default Just another new kid in town ...

    Greetings and salutations!

I grew up in a small town in South Texas that had regular train activity (freight). I always enjoyed watching the trains go by and seeing the different types of cars. I moved several times since then and learned that I missed it when I moved back to the area. I have a fascination with Pullman passenger cars since I never saw one growing up and they are "new" to me. I also have a secret love affair with the GG1 (don't tell the SD70ace).

Most recently Iíve developed in interest in intermodal. My job has me driving around a lot and I started noticing trucks pulling these containers around that (working in a port city) Iím used to seeing on ships. One day while driving along the port searching for the other elusive ďPortĒ switcher that works the area I saw my first well cars (TTX MAXI ĖIVs I later found out). So Iím looking in to that.

Iím very new to the MRR hobby but not to modeling in general. I already have tools and paints and skills so the learning curve is primarily the actual history and vocabulary (jargon, vernacular, or what have you) of the hobby. I hope to learn a lot from this site and members and look forward to many interesting posts.

FYI Iím the type that learns as much as I can before taking the first step so as of now I donít have much of anything to show or tell. Iím doing the research so to speak.

Great point, price is another factor I need to consider. The ability to have more N scale layout within the same real estate also means more track, locos, rolling stock, structures, turnouts, etc... Cramming double the stuff in that space also can mean double the cost.
